Joe Root Reclaims Top Spot in ICC Test Rankings; Boland Breaks into Top 10 After Hat-Trick

England’s Joe Root has reclaimed the No. 1 position in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings following a match-winning performance in the third Test against India at Lord’s. Root scored 104 in the first innings and added a crucial 40 in the second, helping England secure a narrow 22-run victory. His return to the top displaces teammate Harry Brook, who slips to third after scoring 11 and 23 in the same match.

New Zealand’s Kane Williamson now occupies the No. 2 spot, while India's Shubman Gill, who endured a poor outing at Lord’s, has dropped from sixth to ninth. Rishabh Pant also slid a place to eighth, despite a gritty 74 in the first innings.

There were gains for other Indian players, though. KL Rahul, who scored a century at Lord’s, climbed five spots to No. 35 in the batting rankings. Ravindra Jadeja, who contributed with twin fifties—including an unbeaten 61 in the second innings—also moved up five places to No. 34.

Australia's Steven Smith rose to fourth in the batting charts, overtaking India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal. Smith made 48 in the first innings of Australia’s day-night Test win over West Indies in Jamaica. Jaiswal had scores of 13 and 0 in his Lord’s Test appearance—his first without a fifty against England.

On the bowling front, India's Jasprit Bumrah maintained his No. 1 ranking after another five-wicket haul against England. However, it was Australia’s Scott Boland who made the biggest leap, climbing six places to No. 6 after a stunning performance in Jamaica, where he claimed six wickets, including a hat-trick in the second innings.

Mitchell Starc, who took 6 for 9 to help dismiss West Indies for just 27—the second-lowest Test total in history—remained at No. 10 in the bowling rankings. However, he gained two spots in the Test allrounder rankings, which continue to be led by Jadeja.
