Pakistan have announced their squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of the West Indies, with Shaheen Shah Afridi making a return to both T20I and ODI formats, and uncapped batter Hasan Nawaz earning his maiden ODI call-up. The tour will feature three T20Is in the USA followed by three ODIs in Trinidad and Tobago.
Hasan Nawaz, 22, has had a dramatic start to his international career. After scoring back-to-back ducks in his first two T20I appearances against New Zealand in March, he bounced back in spectacular fashion with the fastest T20I century by a Pakistani in just his third game. His inconsistency has persisted—his most recent series against Bangladesh featured runs in all three matches at home, followed by two consecutive ducks away—but his explosive potential has cemented his place in the T20I setup.
Afridi’s return to the T20I side comes on the back of a stellar Pakistan Super League (PSL) campaign, where he led Lahore Qalandars to their third title. He also rejoins the ODI side, which will be under the leadership of Mohammad Rizwan. Notably, this series marks the first time newly appointed white-ball head coach Mike Hesson takes charge of Pakistan’s ODI squad.
Pakistan’s white-ball cricket has undergone a shift in focus towards the T20 format, especially with the T20 World Cup just six months away. The ODI leg of the recent home series against Bangladesh was scrapped in favor of additional T20Is—although those matches were later cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. Despite internal discussions to convert the West Indies ODI leg into more T20Is, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stuck with the original plan.
The T20I series will take place at Central Broward Park and Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, USA, on July 31, August 2, and 3. The ODI matches will follow on August 8, 10, and 12 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago.
Pakistan’s squads feature the return of key players including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, and Afridi. Salman Ali Agha will continue as the T20I captain, while Rizwan leads the ODI side.
