Tickner Shines Before Rain Washes Out Final GSL 2025 League Match

Blair Tickner's fiery spell helped dismantle Rangpur Riders' middle order, but relentless rain had the final word as the last league-stage match of the 2025 Global Super League (GSL) was abandoned in Guyana.

The contest between Central Stags and Rangpur Riders was interrupted multiple times due to wet weather, ultimately ending without a result. While the outcome had no bearing on the final standings — with Rangpur already through to the final and the Stags out of contention — it was a frustrating finish to the group stage.

Rain Plays Spoilsport

Persistent morning rain delayed the toss by 45 minutes, and even after Rangpur captain Nurul Hasan chose to bat, play was further pushed back. The game eventually began as a 17-over-per-side contest, only for another interruption to reduce it further to 14 overs each.

Spin, Then Tickner Wreck Riders' Line-up

Central Stags opted for spin at both ends to start, and it paid dividends quickly. Offspinner Angus Schaw struck with his second delivery to dismiss Soumya Sarkar, while Jayden Lennox removed Ibrahim Zadran soon after.

When the game resumed, Blair Tickner took charge. The New Zealand pacer produced a ruthless spell, picking up 3 for 17, including the key wickets of Mahidul Islam Ankon, Iftikhar Ahmed, and captain Nurul Hasan, as Rangpur’s innings collapsed to 66 for 6.

Schaw (3 for 13) and Lennox (3 for 6) then cleaned up the tail, bowling out the Riders for just 79 — a total well below par, even in a shortened game.

However, any hopes of a chase were dashed by another bout of heavy rain, forcing the match to be abandoned without the Stags facing a ball.

Final Set

Despite the anticlimactic ending, the table-topping Rangpur Riders will move on to the GSL 2025 final, while the Stags exit the tournament after finishing third.
