India's Abhishek Sharma has climbed to the top of the ICC T20I batting rankings, ending Travis Head’s long-standing reign at No. 1. Head, who had held the position since June 2024, dropped a place after missing Australia's recent T20I series against the West Indies.
Abhishek becomes only the third Indian to achieve the top spot in T20I batting rankings, following in the footsteps of Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. The 24-year-old left-hander has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the shortest format, and his explosive century in the final T20I against England earlier this year—a 54-ball 135 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium—cemented his credentials.
Travis Head, Abhishek's opening partner at Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, last featured in a T20I in September 2024. His absence from the Australia-West Indies series allowed Abhishek to leapfrog him in the latest rankings update.
Australia’s Josh Inglis climbed six places to enter the top 10, landing at No. 9 after scoring 172 runs in the West Indies series. Shai Hope, who finished just ahead of Inglis in the run charts with a century to his name, retained his spot at No. 10.
Tim David surged 12 places to No. 18 after smashing the fastest T20I century for Australia, while Brandon King also made gains, moving up nine spots. The biggest jump came from Cameron Green, who soared 64 places to reach No. 24 after an impressive all-round showing.
Among bowlers, Australian pacer Nathan Ellis moved up nine places to joint-eighth following a strong series in the Caribbean.
In the Test arena, England captain Ben Stokes rose three places to No. 3 in the allrounder rankings after a standout performance at Old Trafford, where he scored a century and picked up five wickets. The list continues to be led by India's Ravindra Jadeja, who remains in fine form in the ongoing Test series against England.
India’s Washington Sundar also enjoyed a significant rise. After scoring his maiden Test century in Manchester, Sundar climbed eight places to joint-thirteenth, earning a career-best 193 ranking points.
