Abhishek Sharma’s Blazing 141 Powers SRH to Record-Breaking Win: “This One’s for the Orange Army”

Abhishek Sharma delivered one of the most breathtaking knocks in IPL history to help Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) snap a four-match losing streak in style. His scintillating 141 off just 55 balls powered SRH to a remarkable nine-wicket win over Punjab Kings in a high-octane run chase of 248—the second-highest successful chase in IPL history.

The innings, marked by 14 boundaries and 10 sixes, was a masterclass in power hitting, laced with smart innovation and calculated aggression. Alongside Travis Head, who also found form, Abhishek stitched a 171-run opening partnership that dismantled Punjab’s bowling plans.

What made the night even more special was Abhishek’s emotional celebration. After reaching his century, the left-hander pulled out a handwritten note from his pocket that read, "This one is for Orange Army," dedicating his milestone to SRH’s loyal fanbase.

“I wrote it today itself,” Abhishek revealed in the post-match interview. “I usually wake up and write something. I got a random thought that if I do something today, that would be for the Orange Army. Luckily, today I felt it was my day.”

His knock wasn’t just about brute force—it featured finesse too. In the tenth over, when Marco Jansen tried to cramp him from around the wicket, Abhishek surprised many by going fine for a couple of boundaries, showcasing his adaptability. “If you've seen me close enough, I never play anything behind the wicket,” he admitted, “but I was still trying a few shots because they had a good plan outside off. The pitch had even bounce, and the boundary size helped.”

With SRH languishing at the bottom of the points table before the game, there was growing pressure on the batting unit—especially the openers. Abhishek acknowledged the weight of expectations. “I'd be lying if I say there was no pressure. There is pressure if you don't do well in three or four innings, especially if your team's losing. But nobody in the team had a negative mindset. Everyone was waiting for an explosion like this.”

That explosion came at just the right time, propelling SRH up two places to eighth on the table and reigniting their playoff hopes. Their next challenge? A clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

With confidence restored and momentum on their side, the Orange Army will be hoping their star opener can continue to deliver.
