Bangladesh's newly reinstated Test captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, has won the toss and elected to bat first against Zimbabwe in the opening Test of their series at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Shanto returns to captaincy after missing Bangladesh's previous Test series against the West Indies last year. In another notable return for the home side, veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim makes his comeback to the team, along with fast bowler Khaled Ahmed.
The Bangladeshi squad, however, is without a few key players. Fast bowler Shahadat Hossain has been dropped from the squad, while Litton Das and Taskin Ahmed have been given rest for this match.
Zimbabwe, led by Craig Ervine, come into the game with a three-man pace attack, featuring Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, and Victor Nyauchi. Left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza is also included in the Zimbabwean lineup, marking his return to the Test side.
The visitors have made several changes to their squad since their last Test series. Johnathan Campbell, who captained Zimbabwe in their previous series in the absence of Ervine, has been dropped from the side for this game. Additionally, Takudzwanashe Kaitano, Newman Nyamhuri, and Trevor Gwandu—who featured in the previous Test—have been left out. In their place, Zimbabwe have included Ervine, Sean Williams, Masakadza, and Nyauchi.
