Corbin Bosch Handed One-Year PSL Ban for Withdrawing from 2025 Season

South Africa’s Corbin Bosch has been banned from participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for one year after withdrawing from the 2025 season despite being selected as a diamond pick by Peshawar Zalmi.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the suspension on Wednesday, stating that Bosch breached his contractual obligations by opting out of the PSL after being signed by the Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The overlapping schedules of the two leagues created a conflict, and Bosch’s withdrawal led the PCB to issue a legal notice.

In a statement released on the PCB’s website, Bosch expressed remorse over his decision:
"I deeply regret my decision to withdraw from the PSL, and offer my sincere apologies to the people of Pakistan, the fans of Peshawar Zalmi, and the wider cricket community. I take full responsibility for my actions, and accept the consequences, including the penalty fine and the one-year ban from the PSL."

The PCB emphasized that the ban, which rules Bosch out of the 2026 edition of the league, was intended to set a precedent and discourage players from abandoning PSL commitments in favor of overlapping tournaments such as the IPL.

Bosch, who is yet to play a match for Mumbai Indians this season, has featured as a substitute fielder. Despite his limited involvement on the field, his decision to switch allegiances drew the ire of the PCB, particularly as this year’s PSL draft was scheduled after the IPL auction specifically to target unsold players and avoid such conflicts.

“The PCB believes this decision will serve as a deterrent and reinforce the integrity of our competition,” a PCB official said. “Player commitment and professionalism are vital as we continue to grow the league.”

The 2025 PSL draft saw a notable influx of high-profile players who went unsold in the IPL auction, including the likes of David Warner, Daryl Mitchell, Jason Holder, Rassie van der Dussen, and Kane Williamson.

The tenth edition of the Pakistan Super League begins on April 11, with defending champions Islamabad United taking on Lahore Qalandars in Rawalpindi.
