David Warner Signs with Seattle Orcas for MLC 2025

Veteran Australian opener David Warner is set to make his debut in Major League Cricket (MLC) after signing with the Seattle Orcas for the league’s third edition, scheduled to begin on June 12, 2025.

This marks Warner’s first stint in the USA-based T20 league, adding to his extensive experience in the format. The 37-year-old, currently captaining Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), has been a mainstay in T20 leagues across the globe. With 12,956 runs at a strike rate of 140.27 from 401 T20 matches, Warner brings firepower and leadership to the Orcas lineup.

Warner retired from international cricket in June 2024, concluding a decorated career with Australia. Despite his pedigree, he went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, ending a long and successful IPL run that began in 2009. He remains the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament’s history with 6,565 runs in 184 innings.

However, Warner’s recent performances suggest he’s far from done. He had a stellar Big Bash League (BBL) season, captaining Sydney Thunder to the final and finishing as the second-highest run-scorer with 405 runs in 12 innings. He also played a key role in Dubai Capitals’ title-winning campaign in the ILT20 earlier this year.

The Seattle Orcas, who topped the MLC table in the inaugural 2023 season before losing the final to MI New York, endured a disappointing 2024 campaign, finishing at the bottom with just one win in seven matches under Heinrich Klaasen's captaincy. Warner’s signing signals a fresh start for the franchise as they look to bounce back.

MLC 2025 will run from June 12 to July 13 and, unlike last year, will not clash with The Hundred in England, where Warner is also signed to play for London Spirit.
