England have named a 15-player squad for their upcoming three-match ODI series against India, with captain Nat Sciver-Brunt expected to return to full fitness after a groin injury ruled her out of the latter part of the T20I series.
Sciver-Brunt, who sustained the injury during the second T20I, missed the final three matches of the series. Tammy Beaumont stepped in as stand-in captain for the third T20I at the Kia Oval, where England secured a five-run victory to reduce India's series lead to 2-1.
Despite the setback, England's selectors are confident Sciver-Brunt will be fit in time for the ODIs, which begin on July 16 at the Utilita Bowl. The remaining matches are scheduled for July 19 at Lord’s and July 22 at Chester-le-Street.
Left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone makes her return to the ODI side after missing the West Indies series earlier this year due to injury. She replaces legspinner Sarah Glenn. Also returning is Maia Bouchier, who was recently drafted into the T20I squad as Sciver-Brunt's replacement and now bolsters the ODI batting options.
Pace bowler Lauren Filer retains her spot after impressing during England’s T20I win at the Oval, where she bowled the fastest recorded delivery in women’s cricket—averaging 76 mph—as part of her comeback from a knee injury.
England’s head coach, Charlotte Edwards, acknowledged the tough challenge posed by India during the T20Is and emphasized the importance of the ODI series in preparing for the ICC Women's World Cup in India this autumn.
“India have really pushed us during the Vitality IT20 series. We’ve learned a lot about the team in these three games,” said Edwards. “There have been good moments, but we’re a team in transition. We need to keep working hard to achieve consistency. The ODI series will test us again, and we’re determined to rise to the challenge.”
Reflecting on the team's dramatic win at the Oval, Edwards praised the squad’s resilience. “I’m very proud of the character and the fight the players showed. Hopefully, we can carry that momentum into the ODIs.”
Apart from Ecclestone and Bouchier, the squad remains largely unchanged from the group that faced the West Indies earlier this season.
