Quetta Gladiators delivered a clinical all-round performance to dismantle Peshawar Zalmi by 64 runs in their PSL 2025 clash at the Gaddafi Stadium, with Faheem Ashraf starring with a fiery five-wicket haul that sent Zalmi crashing to 114 in a chase of 179.
Faheem’s devastating spell—claiming 5 for 33—ripped the heart out of Zalmi’s batting, after a solid batting effort from Quetta led by Mark Chapman (33), Kusal Mendis (32), and Saud Shakeel (32) helped them post 178 for 7.
Quetta were put in to bat and got off to a flying start, thanks to a blazing cameo from Finn Allen (31 off 16) and a fluent knock from Rilee Rossouw. The pair laid the foundation with 67 runs in the powerplay. However, Zalmi clawed back through a disciplined spin attack—Sufiyan Muqeem and Saim Ayub bowled eight economical overs for just 57 runs and picked up crucial wickets.
Their good work continued into the later stages as Alzarri Joseph and Ali Raza tightened the screws, before Chapman counterattacked in the 18th over, taking 17 off Raza. Quetta finished with a competitive 178, though Zalmi would’ve been the happier side at the halfway mark.
Peshawar Zalmi’s reply began on a positive note with Saim Ayub smashing a boundary off the first ball and Babar Azam following up with a six and a four. But the momentum was short-lived. Faheem Ashraf bounced back immediately, removing Ayub with extra bounce and then saw Mohammad Amir trap Babar lbw four balls later.
That double blow opened the floodgates. Mohammad Wasim produced a beautiful inswinger to bowl Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and the top order crumbled under sustained pressure. Haris and Abdul Samad fell in quick succession, with Faheem continuing to wreak havoc.
Quetta’s bowlers never let the game slip from their grip. Hussain Talat showed some resistance with a fighting 39 off 34, but lacked support from the other end. Mitchell Owen’s brief cameo was cut short, and Zalmi’s lower order failed to mount any recovery.
Khurram Shahzad and Abrar Ahmed chipped in with wickets, while Mendis was safe behind the stumps. Fittingly, it was Faheem who wrapped up the innings, dismissing Muqeem to complete his first-ever PSL five-for and confirm a comprehensive win for Quetta.
Quetta Gladiators – 178/7 in 20 overs (Chapman 33, Kusal 32, Shakeel 32; Joseph 3-33)
Peshawar Zalmi – 114 all out in 17.3 overs (Talat 39; Faheem 5-33)
Result: Quetta Gladiators won by 64 runs
With this result, Quetta Gladiators continue their push towards the playoffs, while Zalmi face serious questions over their top-order stability and death-bowling discipline.
