IPL 2025: Purple and Orange Cap Races Heat Up After CSK vs SRH Clash

The IPL 2025 season continues to thrill, with the race for the Purple and Orange Caps heating up following the latest clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Purple Cap Standings: Prasidh, Hazlewood Lead the Pack

Gujarat Titans pacer Prasidh Krishna remains at the top of the Purple Cap table with 16 wickets in eight matches. Hot on his heels is Josh Hazlewood of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who matched Prasidh's tally after a superb 4 for 33 spell against Rajasthan Royals. However, Prasidh retains the top spot thanks to a slightly better economy rate.

CSK’s Noor Ahmad has surged back into the top three after taking 2 for 42 against SRH. With 14 wickets this season, Noor has shown consistency despite a mid-season dip. Harshal Patel of SRH follows closely with 13 wickets, bolstered by his match-winning 4 for 20 against CSK, which included key dismissals of Dewald Brevis and MS Dhoni.

A group of seven bowlers are tied with 12 wickets each, making the competition intense. This group includes:

  • R Sai Kishore (GT)

  • Kuldeep Yadav (Delhi Capitals)

  • Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians)

  • Krunal Pandya (RCB)

  • Mohammed Siraj (GT)

  • Khaleel Ahmed (CSK)

  • Shardul Thakur (LSG)

Orange Cap Standings: Sudharsan Holds Strong

In the race for the Orange Cap, Gujarat Titans' B Sai Sudharsan continues to lead with 417 runs from eight games, averaging 52.12 with a strike rate of 152.18.

RCB star Virat Kohli climbed to second place after scoring 70 off 42 balls against Rajasthan Royals. He now has 392 runs in nine innings, keeping the pressure on the leader.

Nicholas Pooran of LSG, who had led the charts for much of the tournament, has slipped to third after three low scores. He currently has 377 runs from nine innings.

Just behind him is Suryakumar Yadav of Mumbai Indians, sitting on 373 runs. His consistent form has been a highlight of the season—he has avoided a single-digit score in all his innings, with top contributions like 68*, 67, and 40*.

The top five is rounded out by Jos Buttler (GT) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR), both with 356 runs. Buttler has played one innings fewer than Jaiswal, who has found blistering form lately with scores of 75, 51, 74, and 49 in his last four outings.
