Mumbai Indians (MI) fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been declared available for selection for the IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday. MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed Bumrah’s availability after his successful recovery and clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence.
"He's available, he's training today, and should be available [for the RCB game]," Jayawardene said. "He arrived last night, had his sessions with the NCA to finalize that, and has been handed over to our physios. He's bowling today, so all good."
Bumrah joined the MI squad on Saturday after receiving the green light from BCCI’s medical staff in Bengaluru. His return comes as a significant boost for MI, who have struggled with their bowling attack, losing three of their first four matches in IPL 2025. The team has relied on a mix of experienced internationals and emerging Indian bowlers like Vignesh Puthur, Ashwani Kumar, and Satyanarayana Raju.
"Boom’s coming back from a pretty decent layoff, so we need to give him that space. Not expect too much. Knowing Jasprit, he will be up for it," Jayawardene added. "We’re very happy to have him in the camp, the experience he brings, that extra voice out there in the middle—chatting with Boulty [Trent Boult], chatting with Deepak [Chahar], or any other younger bowler, giving that advice is also very valuable for us."
Bumrah has not played competitive cricket since the Sydney Test in January, where he suffered a stress reaction in his back. He missed India’s home series against England and the Champions Trophy during his recovery. In recent weeks, he has been gradually building his bowling workload at the Centre of Excellence, ensuring full fitness ahead of India’s upcoming five-Test series in England starting June 28.
Since making his IPL debut in 2013, Bumrah has been a key asset for MI, claiming 165 wickets in 133 matches. He missed the 2023 IPL season due to a back injury, marking his first absence since undergoing back surgery in March 2023.
