Jediah Blades Replaces Rested Alzarri Joseph in West Indies ODI Squad for Pakistan Series

The West Indies have named rookie left-arm seamer Jediah Blades in their 15-member ODI squad for the upcoming three-match home series against Pakistan, with fast bowler Alzarri Joseph rested as part of workload management. Blades, 23, replaces Joseph and joins the squad with just one ODI and four T20Is under his belt. Known for his ability to swing the new ball, Blades gets a significant opportunity in a crucial series for the Caribbean side.

Allrounder Romario Shepherd has also returned to the ODI setup, having last featured in the format in December 2024. Shepherd missed earlier ODI series this year against England and Ireland but has now been recalled as West Indies aim to bolster their options in both departments.

Head coach Daren Sammy emphasized the importance of the series, as West Indies push to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

“Pakistan presents a different test and challenge as we continue our push for automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup,” Sammy said. “The upcoming matches against teams like Pakistan, who are ranked higher, provide crucial opportunities to earn valuable ranking points to improve our standing.”

Currently ranked 10th in the ICC ODI rankings, West Indies were recently whitewashed 3-0 by England, making the Pakistan series vital for their qualification hopes. Despite the setback, their recent ODI form at home offers encouragement, having won their last three series on home soil.

The squad retains a familiar core, with Shai Hope continuing as captain. Other notable names include Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Jayden Seales, and Shamar Joseph. The matches are scheduled to be held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on August 8, 10, and 12.
