South Africa Under-19 opener Jorich Van Schalkwyk has entered the record books by becoming the first player to score a double century in men’s Youth ODIs. The 18-year-old achieved the milestone with a stunning 215 off 153 balls against Zimbabwe Under-19 in the opening match of the tri-series in Harare.
Van Schalkwyk’s blistering innings featured 19 fours and six sixes, propelling South Africa to a mammoth total of 385 in their 50 overs. His stay at the crease lasted 212 minutes, covering 46.2 overs—a display of both power and endurance.
In doing so, he surpassed the previous record for the highest individual score in men’s Youth ODIs, which was 191 by Sri Lanka's Hasitha Boyagoda against Kenya in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup.
Zimbabwe, in reply, were skittled out for just 107, sealing a commanding victory for South Africa.
The historic innings comes just days after Van Schalkwyk had set a new record for the highest individual score by a South Africa U-19 batter, with an unbeaten 164 against Bangladesh U-19. That record now stands as a distant second to his new benchmark.
With back-to-back centuries, including a groundbreaking double ton, Van Schalkwyk has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket.
