Khaleel Ahmed Ends Essex Stint Early Due to Personal Reasons

India fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed has cut short his contract with Essex, returning home after playing just two County Championship matches for the club. Initially signed for a two-month stint that included red-ball and List A cricket, Khaleel cited personal reasons for his early departure.

The left-arm seamer had been expected to feature in six County Championship fixtures and up to ten One-Day Cup matches. His signing, announced in June, came on the back of a strong showing for India A, where he took 4 for 70 in a red-ball game against the England Lions. However, his time with Essex yielded only four wickets at an average of 64.50 from two first-class outings.

Essex confirmed his exit in a brief statement:
"While we are disappointed to see him leave, we fully support Khaleel's decision and are grateful for the contributions he made during his time with us."

Khaleel, who last represented India in 2019, has played 11 ODIs, claiming 15 wickets at an average of 31.00. Despite limited recent international appearances, he has remained active in domestic cricket with Rajasthan and featured in the Duleep Trophy last year.

The 26-year-old will now turn his focus to India’s red-ball domestic season, and is likely to be in contention for selection in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which begins on August 28.
