Kuldeep Yadav Climbs to No. 2 on IPL 2025 Purple Cap Table After DC’s Super Over Win

Delhi Capitals’ (DC) thrilling Super Over victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) not only electrified fans but also shook up the IPL 2025 Purple Cap standings. Kuldeep Yadav’s consistent run continued as the left-arm wristspinner rose to second on the list of highest wicket-takers this season.

Kuldeep, who returned figures of 1 for 33 in Wednesday night’s clash, now has 11 wickets in six matches. He trails current Purple Cap holder Noor Ahmad by just one wicket. Noor, who has held the top spot for much of the season, sits on 12 wickets.

Purple Cap Race Heats Up

Kuldeep isn’t alone on 11 wickets. Khaleel Ahmed (Chennai Super Kings) and Shardul Thakur (Lucknow Super Giants) also share that tally but have played one more match than the DC spinner. Khaleel edges ahead of Thakur due to a better economy rate — 9.00 compared to Thakur’s 10.96.

Despite the spotlight being on Mitchell Starc for his final-over heroics and Super Over brilliance, he only added one wicket to his tally. Starc now joins a group of bowlers locked at 10 wickets, which includes:

  • Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians)

  • Prasidh Krishna, R Sai Kishore, Mohammed Siraj (all Gujarat Titans)

  • Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana (both Kolkata Knight Riders)

This surge means 11 bowlers now have 10 or more wickets in IPL 2025, keeping the Purple Cap race tightly contested.

Orange Cap: Pooran Holds Firm, Rahul and Jaiswal Surge

The Orange Cap standings at the top remain unchanged, with Nicholas Pooran (Lucknow Super Giants), B Sai Sudharsan (Gujarat Titans), and Mitchell Marsh (LSG) leading the run charts. However, DC captain KL Rahul and RR’s opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson are fast closing in.

Rahul moved up to seventh in the rankings with a 32-ball 38 against RR, taking his season tally to 238 runs. Jaiswal’s classy 51 — his third fifty of the season — lifted him to 233 runs and eighth place. Samson, who retired hurt on 31, follows close behind with 224 runs at ninth.

IPL 2025 Stat Highlights

  • Top Wicket-Taker: Noor Ahmad – 12 wickets

  • Best Economy (among top wicket-takers): Khaleel Ahmed – 9.00

  • Top Run-Scorer: Nicholas Pooran (LSG)

  • Most Sixes, Strike Rates, Economy Rates: To be updated as the season progresses

As the league stage heats up, individual brilliance continues to shape the destiny of teams. With Kuldeep Yadav breathing down Noor Ahmad’s neck and multiple batters surging up the run charts, IPL 2025 promises more statistical drama in the days to come.
