Nathan Gilchrist to Leave Kent for Warwickshire; Muyeye Commits Future to Canterbury

Kent seamer Nathan Gilchrist has turned down a contract extension and will leave the club at the end of the 2025 season to join Warwickshire, ending a six-year spell at Canterbury.

The 25-year-old Zimbabwe-born quick, who is English-qualified, joined Kent from Somerset's academy in 2020. He made a name for himself in red-ball cricket, taking 107 first-class wickets for the club at an average of 32.40. Gilchrist’s white-ball form has also been promising, notably featuring in Kent’s 2022 Royal London One-Day Cup triumph and claiming 29 wickets in T20s since making his debut last year.

"This was an extremely tough decision for me to make," Gilchrist said. "But this is the best move for me, and for my career, at this point in time. I’m proud to have been a Kent cricketer and hope to finish this season on a high."

Kent’s director of cricket Simon Cook said: “We’re disappointed that Nathan has chosen not to sign a new contract here and move to Warwickshire, but we wish him all the very best. He will always be welcome back at the Spitfire Ground.”

Despite Gilchrist's departure, Kent received a significant boost with the contract extension of talented batter Tawanda Muyeye. The 24-year-old has committed to the club until the end of the 2027 season, with an option for a further year.

Muyeye, who also hails from Zimbabwe and came to the UK as a refugee, has been in fine form. He is Kent’s leading run-scorer in the Vitality Blast, recording his maiden T20 hundred this season, and has contributed 570 runs at 35.62 in Division Two of the County Championship.

"This club is now my home," Muyeye said. "I’m delighted to commit my future to Kent and grateful for the support from team-mates, coaches, and fans. I’m determined to continue to grow and put in more match-winning performances."

In other county moves, Gloucestershire allrounder Tom Price has signed a three-year deal with Sussex, effective after the 2025 season. Price, 25, made headlines in 2023 by becoming the first player to score a century and take a hat-trick on the same day in a first-class match.

Though injury has interrupted his career, Price has 94 first-class wickets at 31.11 and played a key role in Gloucestershire's T20 Blast title win last season.

“This is an amazing opportunity,” said Price. “I’ve had great conversations with Sussex, and I’m excited to help the team win games and trophies.”

Sussex director of cricket Paul Farbrace added: “Tom is a genuine all-round cricketer who will really enhance our squad. He’s impressed us during the recruitment process and will be central to our plans across all formats.”

Price is the second Gloucestershire player to join Sussex for 2026, following seamer Dom Goodman’s earlier move.
