Noor Ahmad Leads the Purple Cap Race, Nicholas Pooran Tops the Orange Cap Leaderboard in IPL 2024

Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) left-arm wristspinner Noor Ahmad continues his dominance in the IPL 2024 season as he retains the Purple Cap, now the first bowler to reach 10 wickets. The young Afghan’s consistent performances have been crucial for CSK’s bowling attack. His best performance so far remains the stunning 4 for 18 in their opening game against Mumbai Indians (MI).

Ahmad added another wicket to his tally in CSK's match against Delhi Capitals (DC), dismissing DC captain Axar Patel to remain at the top of the leaderboard. With this wicket, he firmly holds the Purple Cap as the season’s highest wicket-taker.

In second place is Australia’s Mitchell Starc, whose impressive 5 for 35 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) marked his career-best T20 bowling figures. Starc, who struck early in DC’s encounter with CSK, now sits with nine wickets from just three matches. His standout performance against SRH pushed him back into the top spot for wicket-takers, as he continues to impress with his pace and precision.

MI’s captain Hardik Pandya, who had previously held the second position, has dropped to third place. Pandya also became part of the season's five-wicket club, taking 5 for 43 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday, marking the second five-wicket haul of the season after Starc's earlier effort.

Meanwhile, on the batting front, LSG's Nicholas Pooran continues to lead the Orange Cap race despite a modest 12-run performance against MI. Pooran has accumulated 201 runs from four innings, largely thanks to his explosive performances in the first three games of the season: 75 from 30 balls against DC, 70 from 26 against SRH, and 44 from 30 against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Gujarat Titans' opener Sai Sudharsan, who has been in top form, occupies second place on the leaderboard with 186 runs. Sudharsan's latest contribution was a well-paced 49 off 36 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), which followed scores of 74 and 63 in his earlier matches.

Returning to form is Mitchell Marsh, who has climbed back to third place with 184 runs from four innings. Marsh played a key role in LSG's win against MI, scoring 60 from 31 balls. Despite a duck against PBKS, Marsh has been consistent with his half-century performances, making him a vital contributor for LSG this season.

With the season heating up, both bowlers and batters continue to impress, setting the stage for an exciting contest for the Purple and Orange Caps in the coming weeks.
