Rachel Trenaman Leads Australia A Fightback Against England A in Unofficial Test

Rachel Trenaman anchored a spirited recovery with a composed 77 as Australia A posted 315 for 7 on the opening day of their four-day unofficial Test against England A at Sydney’s Drummoyne Oval. Despite a shaky start, half-centuries from Charli Knott and Nicole Faltum helped the hosts rally back into a strong position by stumps.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, Australia A were in early trouble at 50 for 3 in the morning session. England A’s Issy Wong struck twice, bowling Maddy Darke for 5 and dismissing Anika Learoyd for 16 with a sharp catch by Alice Capsey at second slip. Tahlia Wilson was the first to fall, edging Eva Grey to slip for 11.

The hosts went to lunch at 63 for 3, but Trenaman and Knott rebuilt steadily in the second session. The duo added 87 for the fourth wicket, capitalising on some loose bowling to shift the momentum. Knott eventually fell for 52, mistiming a pull off Wong to midwicket.

Trenaman’s gritty 131-ball innings came to an end when she sliced a drive off Capsey to backward point, where Jodi Grewcock made no mistake. Faltum then stepped up, scoring a fluent 52 before being dismissed by Georgia Davis, driving straight to Grace Scrivens at mid-off.

Wong capped off an impressive day with the ball by removing Tess Flintoff for 33, ending with figures of 4 for 57 from 21 overs and reaffirming her role as the spearhead of the England A attack.

The match marks the conclusion of England A’s seven-game tour of Australia. The visitors won the T20I leg 1-0, with two games abandoned due to rain, while Australia A clinched the 50-over series 2-1.
