West Indies batter Rovman Powell has been officially ruled out of the ongoing T20I series against Pakistan after sustaining a wrist injury during the recently concluded series against Australia. The 32-year-old picked up the injury while attempting a catch in the fourth T20I on July 26 in St Kitts.
Powell subsequently missed the fifth and final T20I against Australia and was not included in the playing XI for the first T20I against Pakistan on July 31 in Lauderhill, Florida, which West Indies lost by 14 runs.
Cricket West Indies has confirmed that no replacement will be named for Powell in the T20I squad.
The West Indies are currently trailing 0-1 in the three-match series against Pakistan, with the second and third T20Is scheduled for August 2 and 4 in Lauderhill. The series will be followed by three ODIs, starting August 8 in Tarouba, Trinidad & Tobago.
Given Powell's absence from the ODI format since 2023, he is unlikely to feature in the upcoming 50-over series.
