Sadaf Shamas Ruled Out of Ireland T20Is; Shawaal Zulfiqar Named Replacement

Pakistan have suffered a setback ahead of their T20I series against Ireland, with batter Sadaf Shamas ruled out due to a quadriceps injury sustained during a practice session in Karachi. She has been replaced in the squad by young opener Shawaal Zulfiqar.

Shamas tore her left quadriceps muscle and will be unavailable for the entirety of the three-match series, which begins on August 6 in Belfast. Her absence paves the way for Zulfiqar's return to the national T20I setup.

Zulfiqar, who has featured in three ODIs and seven T20Is for Pakistan, was part of the 24-player group that attended a skills camp in Karachi last month. She is set to join the Ireland-bound squad on August 3.

The 18-year-old has had a stop-start international career so far. Her last T20I appearance came in December 2023, before a shoulder injury sidelined her. She made a comeback earlier this year during the Women's ODI World Cup Qualifier in Lahore, playing two matches and scoring eight runs.

The Pakistan squad will be led by allrounder Fatima Sana and features several young talents, including 20-year-old Eyman Fatima, who earned selection after a strong showing in the National T20 tournament.

All three T20Is against Ireland will be played in Belfast on August 6, 8, and 10.
