Gujarat Titans (GT) stormed to the top of the IPL 2025 points table with a commanding 58-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. A stellar all-round performance, led by B Sai Sudharsan’s blazing 82 and Prasidh Krishna’s clinical 3-wicket haul, helped GT register their fourth consecutive win of the season.
After being put in to bat on a red-soil pitch, GT posted a daunting total of 217 for 6, courtesy of Sudharsan’s fluent knock off 53 balls, well supported by Jos Buttler (36) and M Shahrukh Khan (36). The late flourish from Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan, who added 30 in the final two overs, ensured GT crossed the 200-run mark.
RR’s chase never really got going. They lost early wickets to Mohammed Siraj and Arshad Khan in the powerplay before Prasidh Krishna tightened the screws in the middle overs, finishing with 3 for 24. Despite a valiant 52 from Shimron Hetmyer and 41 from captain Sanju Samson, RR were bowled out for 159 in 19.2 overs.
Sudharsan, in red-hot form this season, started aggressively and brought up GT’s 50 in just 5.1 overs. He raced to 39 off 22 by the end of the powerplay, showcasing a wide range of strokes. His 80-run stand with Buttler set the foundation before Shahrukh Khan injected momentum in the middle overs.
Sudharsan, dropped on 81 by Shubham Dubey off Jofra Archer, added just one more run before falling. But by then, GT had seized control.
Jofra Archer, who had a rough start to the season, looked back to his best. He cranked up the pace, delivering a 152.3 kph bouncer to Sudharsan and clean bowling Shubman Gill with a searing delivery. His fierce spell gave a brief spark to RR’s bowling effort.
Chasing 218, RR lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana early. Samson and Riyan Parag launched a counterattack but Parag’s controversial dismissal — caught behind and upheld on review despite doubts — tilted momentum back in GT’s favor.
Hetmyer and Samson tried to rebuild but Prasidh Krishna struck at key moments, removing both in quick succession. Rashid Khan chipped in with two wickets, including the dangerous Hetmyer, to extinguish any remaining hope for RR.
Prasidh Krishna was outstanding in the middle overs, using short-pitched deliveries to great effect. He dismissed Samson, Archer, and Hetmyer — the last two in the same over — to effectively shut the door on RR’s chase.
With this comprehensive win, GT now sit comfortably at the top of the IPL 2025 standings, while RR, having lost their third match in five games, slip to seventh place.
