Sanju Samson Ruled Out of Clash Against RCB, Riyan Parag to Lead RR Again

Rajasthan Royals (RR) will once again be without their regular captain Sanju Samson for their upcoming IPL 2025 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Thursday. Samson, who is recovering from a side strain sustained during RR’s dramatic Super Over defeat to Delhi Capitals (DC), will remain in Jaipur under the care of the team’s medical staff.

“Samson is currently undergoing recovery and will remain at the team's home base (Jaipur) with select RR medical staff,” RR confirmed in an official statement. “As part of his ongoing rehab process, he will not be travelling to Bangalore for the upcoming match against RCB. The team management is monitoring his progress closely and will take a game-by-game approach regarding his return to action.”

This will be the second consecutive match Samson misses due to the injury. He had walked off retired hurt after scoring 31 off 19 balls against DC and did not return to bat in the Super Over, raising concerns about his fitness.

In his absence, Riyan Parag will continue to lead the Royals. Parag has already captained the side earlier this season when Samson was briefly sidelined due to a finger injury sustained during the T20I series against England. As captain in IPL 2025, Parag has so far amassed 105 runs in four matches at an impressive strike rate of 147.88.

Samson had started the tournament in fine form with a blistering 66 off 37 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad and has been consistently contributing with the bat since. His absence will be a big blow for RR, especially as they face a rejuvenated RCB side currently enjoying a strong run of form away from home.

The Royals are likely to stick with the young and exciting opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and 14-year-old debutant Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who turned heads with his composed and confident start to IPL life. Suryavanshi impressed fans and pundits alike with his fearless approach, and he is expected to retain his spot at the top of the order in Samson’s absence.

As the tournament moves into a crucial phase, RR will be hoping for their captain’s swift return while looking to maintain their momentum under Parag’s leadership.
