Suryavanshi’s Rapid Fifty Puts India Under-19s in Command Against England

Suryavanshi’s Rapid Fifty Puts India Under-19s in Command Against England

A blistering half-century from 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi helped India Under-19s extend their dominance over England on day three of the unofficial Test at Beckenham. At stumps, India were 128 for 3 in their second innings, leading by 229 runs after bowling England out for 439 earlier in the day.

Suryavanshi, showcasing his growing reputation as a prodigious all-rounder, smashed 56 off just 44 balls in an eye-catching innings filled with flair and aggression. His knock featured a series of classy strokes, including a powerful square cut and a straight six, lifting India into a commanding position before being dismissed by Archie Vaughan.

England’s Resistance Falls Short

Resuming the day at 230 for 5, England Under-19s were aiming to close the gap on India’s mammoth first-innings score of 540. Ekansh Singh (59) and Ralphie Albert (50) were the standout performers with fighting half-centuries, but they couldn’t prevent India from securing a 101-run lead.

The morning session saw Thomas Rew fall for 37, edging a wide delivery from Suryavanshi to the keeper. Ekansh followed soon after lunch, falling to Henil Patel, while Albert’s dismissal came immediately after reaching his fifty — caught behind off RS Ambrish.

England nervously avoided the follow-on thanks to a no-ball from Ambrish and a single from Jack Home, but they struggled to accelerate the scoring. Home and James Minto added a valuable 48 for the ninth wicket, before Minto was caught near the square-leg boundary for 20. Home fell last for 40, caught and bowled by Mohamed Enaan.

India Build the Lead

India’s second innings got off to a brisk start thanks to Suryavanshi’s aggressive intent. After narrowly escaping early with an edge over the slips, he quickly settled in, attacking England’s bowlers with confidence. His opening partner, Ayush Mhatre, contributed 32 before falling to Vaughan, who was the pick of England’s bowlers with 3 for 14.

Vaughan then struck twice more, removing Suryavanshi — who miscued a drive to Ekansh at mid-off — and Maulyarajsinh Chavda, who was brilliantly caught by Jaydn Denly running in from midwicket.

At close, Vihaan Malhotra (34*) and Abhigyan Kundu (0*) were at the crease, steadying the innings and pushing India’s overall lead close to 230 with two days still to play.

Score Summary:

India Under-19s: 540 & 128/3 (Suryavanshi 56, Malhotra 34*, Vaughan 3-14)
England Under-19s: 439 (Flintoff 93, Shaikh 84, Ekansh 59, Henil Patel 3-81)
India U19s lead by 229 runs

With a strong lead already in hand and time on their side, India Under-19s will look to press for victory, while England will need early breakthroughs to stay in the contest.
