Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, Becomes Youngest Men's T20 Centurion with Record-Breaking IPL Ton

In a stunning display of fearless hitting and raw talent, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history by becoming the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket, smashing a blistering 101 off just 38 balls for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2025.

Suryavanshi’s century — his first in the IPL and coming in only his third match — was the second-fastest in the league’s history, behind only Chris Gayle’s iconic 30-ball hundred in 2013. He also broke the record for the fastest IPL century by an Indian, previously held by Yusuf Pathan (37 balls), which was also the fastest for Rajasthan Royals until now.

The milestone came in spectacular fashion, with the teenager pulling Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan over midwicket for six. Earlier, he had dismantled debutant Karim Janat in a 30-run over, smashing sixes and fours at will in a sequence of 6, 4, 6, 4, 4, 6.

Of his 101 runs, 94 came in boundaries — including 11 sixes, equaling the record for the most by an Indian in an IPL innings. His clean striking against a GT bowling lineup filled with international stars left fans and experts awestruck. He was eventually bowled by Prasidh Krishna, but by then RR had nearly chased down GT’s target of 210. Suryavanshi's opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal (70* off 40), and skipper Riyan Parag finished the match with eight wickets and 25 balls to spare.

Speaking after the match, Suryavanshi expressed his disbelief and joy. “It feels really good. It was my first century in the IPL in my third innings. What I’ve been practicing for the last three-four months, the result is showing,” he said. “I just focus on the ball, not the bowler or the ground. Batting with Jaiswal bhaiya gives me confidence. It is like a dream to score a century in the IPL.”

Rajasthan Royals’ batting coach Vikram Rathour praised the young star’s technique and power. “He’s got a great downswing, and that helps him generate this kind of power. We’ve been watching him in the nets taking on bowlers like Jofra Archer. He’s a special talent,” said Rathour.

Suryavanshi was drafted into the playing XI after regular captain Sanju Samson was sidelined with an abdominal injury. He had earlier made waves with a 58-ball hundred — the fastest by an Indian in youth Tests — against Australia Under-19s. He also impressed in the Under-19 Asia Cup and even registered an unbeaten triple century in a youth tournament in Bihar.

RR captain Riyan Parag summed up the moment best: “It was incredible. We’ve seen him in the nets, but to do it on this stage, against a world-class attack — it’s something you can’t put into words.”

Suryavanshi was picked by Rajasthan Royals in the 2024 IPL auction for ₹1.10 crore, and after this historic innings, he has repaid that investment in style — and announced himself as Indian cricket’s next big thing.
