Georgia Wareham produced a standout all-round performance as Northern Superchargers handed Welsh Fire their heaviest defeat in Women’s Hundred history, sealing a 47-run win in front of a jubilant crowd at Headingley.
Superchargers posted a competitive 141 for 4 after being asked to bat first, before bowling out the Fire for just 94 to make a dominant start to their 2025 campaign.
Under the guidance of new head coach Lisa Keightley, the Superchargers looked sharp and composed throughout, delighting the 7,208 fans in attendance with a commanding home display.
Batting first, the Superchargers built steadily, anchored by an unbeaten 34 from captain Hollie Armitage. She was well supported by Australia’s Annabel Sutherland (28) and Georgia Wareham (29),* as the trio kept the scoreboard ticking with calculated aggression.
In reply, Welsh Fire’s strong top order was dismantled early, with both Sophia Dunkley and Hayley Matthews dismissed before the score reached double digits. While skipper Tammy Beaumont offered some resistance with a composed 36, her efforts were not enough to salvage the innings.
Wareham backed up her batting heroics with the ball, finishing with 2 for 14, and was well supported by Linsey Smith and Grace Ballinger, who also took two wickets each. The Superchargers' bowlers maintained relentless pressure, never allowing Fire a foothold in the chase.
Speaking after being named Meerkat Match Hero, Wareham credited her team’s clinical execution:
“It felt like a really good hit-out for the girls – we were really clinical in all facets, and it showed on the scoreboard. Hollie [Armitage] kept things calm out there, and we’ve been talking as a team about being brave through different phases of the game. I think we did that really well today.”
Looking ahead, Welsh Fire will aim to bounce back quickly when they host their first game in Cardiff on Saturday, while Superchargers will travel to face Trent Rockets on Sunday, hoping to make it two wins from two.
