Will Williams Signs Three-Year Deal with Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire have bolstered their bowling ranks with the signing of experienced seamer Will Williams on a three-year deal. The New Zealand-born bowler, who holds dual UK-NZ citizenship, will join the county from Lancashire at the end of the current season.

Williams, 32, began his professional career with Canterbury in New Zealand before moving to England in 2022, where he has since established himself at Lancashire. Though limited to just three County Championship appearances this season, he has an impressive record of 99 first-class wickets at 24.29 during his stint with the club, along with nine wickets in List A matches.

The move comes as Gloucestershire face a significant reshuffle in their pace attack, with Ajeet Singh Dale, Zaman Akhter, Tom Price, and Dom Goodman all confirmed to depart. Singh Dale, notably, is heading to Lancashire in a swap of sorts, while Akhter will join Essex, and both Price and Goodman have signed for Sussex.

Gloucestershire head coach Mark Alleyne expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition, describing Williams as more than just a high-performing bowler.

"It is not often a player becomes available still in the peak of their career with a bowling record like Will's," said Alleyne. "That alone would have been enough to attract our interest, but after a couple of meetings, it was clear this lad is a lot more than a high-performing bowler. He has the character I love in a cricketer and is prepared to commit totally to the cause."

"I look forward to welcoming and embracing him to the Glorious family; I'm confident he will be popular with players and supporters alike."

Williams echoed the sentiment, expressing excitement about the next phase of his career.

"I'm really excited for this new chapter in my life," he said. "Speaking to Mark, it's clear the club has strong ambitions, and he's made it clear how I fit into those plans."

"From the outside, Gloucestershire has always looked like a tight-knit, hardworking group. I'm keen to bring my experience, learn from the environment, and hopefully make a positive impact on and off the field. I can't wait to get started and to make Gloucestershire and Bristol my new home."

Williams will be registered as a local player, continuing under the eligibility he has held since his arrival in England.
