Mandhana Rises to No. 3 in ICC T20I Rankings After Record Century; Bell Climbs to Fourth Among Bowlers

Smriti Mandhana has jumped to No. 3 in the ICC Women's T20I Batting Rankings following a sensational century against England in the opening match of the T20I series. The Indian vice-captain smashed a 62-ball 112 — her maiden T20I hundred — in her 149th appearance in the format, helping India to a resounding win and earning her a career-best 771 rating points.

Mandhana, who is already the top-ranked batter in the ICC Women’s ODI rankings, moved past Australia’s Tahlia McGrath on the T20I table. With just three points separating her from West Indies captain Hayley Matthews (774), the No. 2 spot is now well within reach. However, Australia’s Beth Mooney remains firmly in first place with 794 points.

"The girls were really hard on me about the century," Mandhana quipped after the match, reflecting on finally reaching the milestone in her long T20I career.

Other Indian players also saw movement in the rankings. Shafali Verma, who returned to the playing XI after being dropped post-October 2024, moved up one spot to No. 13 after scoring 20 off 22 balls. Harleen Deol, back in the national side after nearly two years, re-entered the rankings at joint-86th thanks to her quickfire 43 from 23 deliveries.

For England, pace bowler Lauren Bell made headlines with her 3 for 27 performance. Her efforts saw her climb to No. 4 in the ICC T20I bowling rankings, overtaking teammates Sophie Ecclestone and India’s Renuka Thakur. Bell now has 727 rating points — just behind Australia’s Annabel Sutherland (736) and India’s Deepti Sharma (735). The top spot remains with Pakistan’s Sadia Iqbal at 746.

The top of the bowling rankings is now highly competitive, with Bell, Deepti, and Ecclestone (725) all within striking distance of reaching the No. 1 position with a strong showing in the next games.

India and England will face off again in the second T20I on Tuesday, where the battle for individual and team supremacy is expected to intensify.
