Texas Super Kings Surge to No. 2 with Dominant Win Over Washington Freedom in Rain-Hit Clash

A blistering unbroken partnership between Shubham Ranjane and Donovan Ferreira powered the Texas Super Kings (TSK) to a commanding 43-run win over Washington Freedom in a rain-shortened five-overs-a-side MLC 2025 fixture on Wednesday. The victory propelled TSK to second place on the points table, level on 12 points with Freedom and San Francisco Unicorns, who lead by net run-rate.

Washington Freedom won the toss and chose to field, a decision that initially paid off as Marcus Stoinis was dismissed for just 2 and Daryl Mitchell retired out after scoring 6. But what followed was pure carnage.

Coming in at No. 3 and 4, Ranjane and Ferreira unleashed a brutal assault, smashing 53 runs off the last 12 balls of the innings. Ranjane remained unbeaten on 39 off 14 balls, while Ferreira stole the show with a jaw-dropping 37 not out off just nine deliveries. Together, they lifted TSK to a formidable total of 87 for 2 in five overs, hitting a combined total of eight sixes and four fours.

In reply, Freedom’s chase was derailed early by South African left-arm pacer Nandre Burger, who dismissed Rachin Ravindra (10) and Glenn Maxwell (0) off the last two balls of the opening over. Akeal Hosein added to the pressure by removing Mitchell Owen in the second over, leaving Freedom reeling.

Although Glenn Phillips remained unbeaten with 18 off 11 balls, Freedom never recovered from the early blows and limped to 44 for 4 at the end of their five overs.

Statistically, the contrast between the two sides was stark: TSK smashed eight sixes and four fours, all by Ranjane and Ferreira, while Freedom could only muster three sixes and three fours.

With this emphatic win, TSK have firmly positioned themselves in the race for the playoffs. The top three teams—San Francisco Unicorns, Texas Super Kings, and Washington Freedom—now share identical win-loss records, promising a thrilling finish to the league stage.
